Welcome! I’m Heather, a Registered Dietitian (RD), marathoner, yoga lover and kitchen experimenter. Other things that define my life: Sports Nutrition counseling, writing, creating training plans, lululemon, goal setting & exploring everything around me!
I live in Washington DC, with my best friend and significant other, D.
I work for a corporate wellness company, write freelance articles, work as a consultant for social media, and come here a few days a week to get my own thoughts, actions and recipe-experiments up on the web. I run frequently, usually with a friend or our DC running crew; I head to yoga on the days I’m not running, and I might roll the bike out on the days that D wants to take me for a ride.

Below, you’ll find out a little bit more about where I come from and why I do what I do…
*******
Nutrition: I have a B.S. in Nutritional Sciences from Penn State University, and completed my Dietetic Internship through the University of Maryland in 2009. My interest in Nutrition is rooted in my family; between a Physician and a Teacher/Runner/Health “nut” ( I say that lovingly!), my siblings and I grew up on the right stuff. However, it wasn’t until college that I realized an interest in healthy food and Nutrition could actually grow into a career.
My internship took me all over the state of Maryland and into the District of Columbia. We learned everything from Clinical Nutrition to the basics of HTML coding and setting up personal web pages. In August of 2009 I became a working-woman, and in November I passed the Registration exam to become an RD.
For more specific information about the route to becoming an RD, check out the FAQ page.

Running: I grew up in an active family; soccer became my sport of choice! My college roommate ran a marathon during our Senior year, which inspired me to sign up for a Half-marathon. This would be my first endurance-running challenge, and I took it in stride. The race was perfect and I crossed the Finish line smiling and reaching for more.
Over the next few years, I ran many more half marathons, and a countless number of short races (ranging from 5K – 20K), before finally taking the plunge for 26.2 miles. I met my running group-turned-best friends in the spring of 2009 and by the fall they had me convinced. On March 20, 2010 I ran my first Full Marathon in 4:07.
I’ve since run two more, and am currently deciding which Spring (2012) race will be lucky #4…
Check out my Races page for more stories, results & Garmin-time photos!

Writing: My very first blog was purely for entertainment, to get comfortable with putting my words out for anyone and everyone to read (hello, internet!). I finally found my niche when I started a Running-blog; it’s easy to write about things you love! I’ve combined my passion for running and nutrition; using blogs and contributing to websites forces me to learn more and allows me to educate those who are interested!
I am a Dietitian first; I’m also a runner, a writer and an educator.
I am always available for any writing opportunities, professional presentations & education opportunities. If you’re looking for an RD for any or all of the above, feel free to contact me.
******
Cooking: I am by no means a Chef, or even a great cook. I am always open to experimenting with food; we eat a plant-heavy diet and are never bored with the choices that are available out there.

Hey Heather!
I found your blog via Heather at Heather’s Dish!
I gotta say, I’m a bit envious of you being out in Colorado.
We used to live there, but moved to Wisconsin 8 years ago.
We dream of going back QUITE often, and it looks like it’s gonna happen next May or June (2011)!! Yay!
We’ll be in the Woodland Park area.
Maybe all us Colorado Heathers can meet up then.
Have a great day
Nice! Let me know when you’re back, officially.
All the Heathers will definitely have to have a date!
P.S. I’m following you on twitter, too. I’m HippieChristian

Sport nutrition is new to me and I’d love to learn about how to fuel the body properly for a good run. And lastly, I’m a long run lover too! it’s challenging but every week I look forward into Sunday’s LRs.
Hello! Glad you found it
I’m always happy to answer questions!
Hi Heather,
I just found your blog from a link on Ashley’s (edibleperspective)! Your stuff is great and I can’t wait to read more. I have heard so many great things about Colorado…I want to go so bad. Bike/running paths, hiking, tons of local produce, people into fitness and the outdoors…..my kind of place!
Hi Tracey, Thanks for the comment/compliment! If you decide to take an adventure out here, let me know! There is certainly no shortage of trails, hikes, parks, farmers’ markets and fun/fresh vegetarian friendly restaurants
I just found your blog from twitter and i love it
Just found you on twitter (FF!) and am really digging it so far. I’m adding you to my blog reader as I type this!

Hi Heather! I was just introduced to you via Live for the Run’s blog. I loved reading your story and can’t believe we haven’t met virtually before?!
Hello! Thanks for the love – now I’m off to introduce myself to *your* site
I love that you live in Colorado
I’m a runner from Loveland, CO and miss it everyday!! Nothing is better than a run with the Rockies as your backdrop. I really enjoy your blog! Keep being awesome.
Hey there! Where are you now? If you’re ever back in the Rockies, you know who to call for a run
I am attending a university in Chicago, but I’m actually back in town this week for Thanksgiving and it is SO nice to be home!! My mom and I are running a 5k on Turkey Day, but I’m hoping the weather allows me to enjoy a few more runs outside while I’m back!!

Hi Heather,
I just found your blog and think it’s funny that you and I are practically mirror images – I’m a PR-pro-turned-RD who moved from Boulder to the D.C. area in June 2010. Reading your posts make me miss running in Colorado, where I trained for three marathons in my pre-kids days (the trick – train at altitude and race at sea level!). Can I run vicariously through you?
Enjoy!
Elana
I really like your blog, I will be following you as all this stuff really intrigues me and I am always open to experienced advice. I love the fact that you are in DC because that is where my Husband is from. I look forward to your new posts.
