Heather

Welcome! I am a registered dietitian (RD), marathoner, yoga lover and kitchen experimenter. I hail from the Southwest and would do almost anything for a batch of freshly roasted green chiles. I have a B.S. in Nutrition from Penn State University, and have now lived on the East Coast for 8+ years (with a one-year hiatus that involved two cross-country moves and a few gigs in Colorado).

I live in Washington DC, not only the nation’s capital but also one of its healthiest cities.

I primarily work as a Coach & Program Manager for Wellness Corporate Solutions, and also as a consultant for dietitians in social media. I absolutely love my job – we work hard to help people make healthy lifestyle changes, and we practice what we preach.  I come here a few days a week to get my own thoughts, actions and recipe-experiments up on the web.

Running is a huge part of my life; I raced my first half-marathon during the spring semester of my senior year (college), and have never looked back. It has created a network of friends and family in DC, and taken me around the states for races, events & explorations.

Lululemon and the Denver fitness world set me up with yoga; my arms and hips don’t know how they ever got by without the mat. I love a good hour+ of muscle-testing poses, and will try just about any type. I don’t think Bikram will ever top my favorites list, but I am learning to appreciate the sweat-inducing hot stuff.

Thanks to lululemon I’m also an avid goal-setter, and have a list set all the time (daily, weekly, monthly, etc). And thanks to that mindset, I’ve ventured into cycling, climbing, hiking, new cities & work opportunities, and an infinite wanderlust.

I found your blog via Heather at Heather’s Dish!
I gotta say, I’m a bit envious of you being out in Colorado.
We used to live there, but moved to Wisconsin 8 years ago.
We dream of going back QUITE often, and it looks like it’s gonna happen next May or June (2011)!! Yay!
We’ll be in the Woodland Park area.
Maybe all us Colorado Heathers can meet up then.
    Have a great day :)

  9. hi, I just found your blog and I am so happy to meet someone really into nutrition and running!!! I’ve always been interested in healthy living and nutrition and recently I got really into running. Sport nutrition is new to me and I’d love to learn about how to fuel the body properly for a good run. And lastly, I’m a long run lover too! it’s challenging but every week I look forward into Sunday’s LRs. :)

  10. Hi Heather,

I just found your blog from a link on Ashley’s (edibleperspective)! Your stuff is great and I can’t wait to read more. I have heard so many great things about Colorado…I want to go so bad. Bike/running paths, hiking, tons of local produce, people into fitness and the outdoors…..my kind of place!

  17. Hi Heather,
I just found your blog and think it’s funny that you and I are practically mirror images – I’m a PR-pro-turned-RD who moved from Boulder to the D.C. area in June 2010. Reading your posts make me miss running in Colorado, where I trained for three marathons in my pre-kids days (the trick – train at altitude and race at sea level!). Can I run vicariously through you? :)
    Enjoy!
    Elana
