Here is a dose of perspective, with a side of optimism, to start your morning:
“You can change your life, because you can change the way you think.”
-Brian Tracy, The Focal Point
You can choose to think, respond & act optimistically – a characteristic of most “successful” people.
During the FitBlog chat last night, we were asked what characteristics make us a “good friend”? Without hesitation, optimism was one of my answers. I hope it’s true.
I’m slowly making my way through this book, The Focal Point (distracted by things like traveling, Harry Potter 7, & Runner’s World magazines); I’ve found myself writing down quotes, stopping to discuss things with D, and using his ideas to fuel my Goals.
Yes, GOALS – for lululemon, we write 1, 5 & 10 year goals (personal, career & health). Have you ever thought about what your life will be like 10 years from now? I’m a planner, but those boxes had me stumped.
As the other boxes were filled up, I noticed a pattern. I also noticed that one category was always hard to decide on: Personal. Is it saying something about me that I can come up with Health & Career goals, but not something to do for myself (that didn’t involve running, or yoga or healthy lifestyles)? Will I be one of those people who is so focused on fitness, travel, nutrition & success that I can’t stop and relax, breath & be still?! Uh oh.
Quite the opposite, we decided. All of my goals intertwine; they all have something to do with the other. I take this to mean one thing: I’ve found a way to incorporate the things I love, with the things that will make me successful. I’ve found a way to combine passions – like running, sports, nutrition, yoga, travel & relationships – with every aspiration.
Now, there’s nothing like a little internet accountability, right? Here goes nothin’. I’ll share one of each.
Personal, Health & Career goals for the next 10 years…
Can you name One goal for each category? It could be for tomorrow, next year, or 10 years from now. They’re your goals, you decide.
This is Part I of a series, hopefully your interest has been piqued, because there’s always more to say on this subject! My fingers could type for days. If there’s anything specific you’d like me to touch on, speak up!
